Truth 2x2 Cult Kids Podcast Episode 5- with Kyle Hanks

Culture - It’s a topic I care a lot about.

For me the culture and its lack of accountability has been what drives the endemic abusive behavior in my community of origin.

I know the CSA and SA is bad, I grew up surrounded by it. However, for me, the intense focus on that behavior (and it is bad, I’m not dismissing that) is a distraction from the real underlying issue in the Truth 2x2 communities: culture.

In my opinion and experience, the Truth 2x2 culture is the driver and the enabler of abuse, of silence, of a harmful narcissism.

I spoke recently on my podcast with Kyle Hanks (of CowTipper Vern and ex 2x2 survivor group fame) about culture and behaviors.

Truth 2x2 culture covers up, silences, excommunicates and avoids. The more we talk about what our culture IS, the more information that can be found – the less the harm can be hidden. In my outro I challenge listeners to consider how Truth 2x2 culture might play out in your life – even after you’ve left. That’s not to say all the culture is ‘bad’ – it isn’t. There are many beautiful things which ex 2x2s have taken with them from our communities and culture– but there are some toxic behaviors we have to deconstruct from. Avoidance of speaking up, not wanting to be ‘a troublemaker’ are two examples I see a lot in survivors of our group.
